Description
This flexible diploma enables computing practitioners to pursue their career goals, choosing from cyber security, software development and IT management, plus options in innovation management and systems thinking. You’ll gain advanced knowledge, skills and techniques and develop a professional approach to studying and applying computing. You can opt for a flexible, broad route and pick modules to meet your requirements or focus on software engineering or information security and forensics.

This postgraduate diploma is the same as the first two-thirds of our MSc in Computing (F66).

How long it takes
Most students study the Postgraduate Diploma in Computing part-time, completing 60 credits a year over two years. Typically, this means 12–13 study hours each week.
You must complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Computing within four years.*
*You must complete the MSc in Computing (Networking) within four years or by 31 December 2028, whichever is sooner.

The modules in the postgraduate computing programme are for professional computer specialists, engineers, technical managers and scientists who need to update their skills and knowledge in specific areas, and gain recognised qualifications to develop their careers.

Credit for previous study elsewhere
If you have already completed some successful study at postgraduate level at another institution you may be able to transfer credit for this study and count it towards this Open University qualification. If you wish to apply to transfer credit you must do so as soon as possible as it may affect your choice of OU modules. If you are awarded credit for study completed elsewhere, you may find that you need to study fewer OU modules to complete your qualification with us.

On completion
On successfully completing this course, we’ll award you our Postgraduate Diploma in Computing. You’ll be entitled to use the letters PG Dip Comp (Open) after your name.
